Los Angeles Lakers Interested in Cam Johnson and Bruce Brown

The Los Angeles Lakers are desperate to improve this summer, and they will likely evaluate a number of choices. According to NBA insider Brian Lewis, GM Rob Pelinka is looking at Nets swingman Cam Johnson as a possible prize after striking out on the major free signings. “Johnson’s size (6-foot-8), age, and shooting skill all make him valuable. Only ten NBA players 6-7 or taller averaged more than his 2.4 3-pointers last season,” Lewis wrote. “While the Kings, Magic and Lakers are interested, one recent report claimed the Spurs, Raptors or Warriors could be a ‘dark horse’.”

The 28-year-old swingman has not been made publicly available, but the Nets are said to be open to offers following the trade of their franchise star, Mikal Bridges. Last season, Cam averaged 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. If Johnson is not available, the Lakers may consider acquiring Bruce Brown, a solid wing player who can play on both sides of the court.

The Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks were two teams that expressed interest in Brown last season, according to sources, and Los Angeles remains interested in him this offseason,” said NBA insider Brett Siegel. “The Golden State Warriors were rumoured to be interested in Brown and were quietly discussed as a potential suitor months ago. While doubtful, the Warriors might trade Andrew Wiggins, who is getting more than $26 million this season, to Toronto in exchange for Brown and other assets. This would give the Dubs more financial flexibility going ahead.” Bruce Brown is an NBA champion, and his knowledge might greatly benefit the Lakers’ rotation.
