Unbelievable: Pigeon racing fraternity rocked by death of Billy Hunter

Another member of the Flimby Homing Society has died, shocking the pigeon racing community. In truth, Billy Hunter was Peter Rushforth’s racing companion, who died a fortnight ago and was remembered with a large crowd at his funeral yesterday.

Billy and his brother Raymond raced for many years and won the coveted Big Cup in the Derwent Valley Federation in 2015. That triumph was their pinnacle achievement in the sport, but Raymond died not long after, and Billy formed a partnership with Peter. The Hunter brothers were acknowledged for the accomplishments of a blue hen (born 2010), which had a significant role in them winning the Big Cup five years later. Throughout her exceptional racing career, she became a Fougeres specialist, winning the Cumbria Combine twice, the Derwent Valley Federation three times, and the West Cumbria Amalgamation three times. She was also the fourth Cumbria Combine member from Fougeres. In total, she has won the Flimby club seven times.
