Daniel Jacob returns to Laval Rocket as assistant coach

It’s not every day that a major sports team announces the hiring of an assistant coach before the head coach. However, the Laval Rocket confirmed on Wednesday that Daniel Jacob will return as an assistant coach for the squad.

Jacob served the same role behind the Rocket bench for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021. Prior to joining the Rockets, Jacob worked as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch and San Diego Gulls. The 43-year-old also spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Jacob holds a degree in kinesiology from McGill University. He also directed the hockey school at his alma mater for four years. The Montreal Canadiens revealed last month that Jean-François Houle had resigned his position as head coach of the Rocket to take the same post with the Clarkson University hockey team in the NCAA. Houle had signed a three-season contract with the Laval organisation in May.
