Blackhawks Trade Talk: Should Kyle Davidson Make a Call on Nick Robertson?

There is no rest for the tired in the NHL right now. Only 24 hours after the NHL Draft finished, the Chicago Blackhawks qualified their restricted free agents and are preparing for free agency, which begins at noon tomorrow EST. Oh, and prospective trades, which may include Nick Robertson?

Robertson has not been the player that the Maple Leafs or Robertson expected. However, he is only 22 and already has more goals and points in 12 fewer games than the Blachkawks’ Lukas Reichel, who might benefit from Robertson wearing the Hawks jumper. There is also leverage because Robertson reportedly does not want to play with the Leafs. What would it cost? The Blackhawks do possess Toronto’s 2025 first-round pick, but it seems excessive for Reichel, who re-signed for an AAV of $1.2 million. Toronto needs defence, and the only person who could step in right away is one of the IceHogs’ rookie defensemen, Ethan Del Mastro or Wyatt Kaiser. Either would be a more affordable choice for the Maple Leafs.
