Having participated in multiple World Cup campaigns with New Zealand, Mitchell McClenaghan has expressed disapproval of the team’s 2024 T20 World Cup selection to omit the seasoned Colin Munro. The Blackcaps’ elimination from the competition was officially announced on Friday following Afghanistan’s victory over Papua New Guinea in Trinidad.
Over the years, Munro, a left-handed opening batsman, has been a consistent run scorer in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Playing for both the St. Lucia Kings and the Trinbago Knight Riders, he has 2353 runs at an average of 35.65 and a strike rate of 128.86 in 79 games.Having had successful individual seasons in the 2023–24 Big Bash League (BBL) and the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL), he was also in reasonably good form. For the Brisbane Heat, the veteran scored 224 runs at an average of 37.33 in seven innings. However, he ended up being Islamabad United’s top run scorer and the sixth-highest run scorer in the PSL as they won the championship.
