Shock Exit: South Africa Legend Siya Kolisi Retires from Springboks Following Sudden Captaincy Removal

Siya Kolisi has retained his spot in the Springboks’ 33-man squad for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but South Africa’s Test skipper has admitted he feared he would miss the global showpiece tournament.

Siya Kolisi, who is expected to be back in action against Wales in two weeks’ time, will captain the Springboks for the second time at the Rugby World Cup.

The 32-year-old suffered a knee injury earlier this year and it was initially feared that the flanker might miss the World Cup. During the squad announcement, Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber said Siya Kolisi will take the field in France and will play in at least one of the South Africa’s remaining two warm-up Test matches
