Eagles Has Terminated LT Jordan Mailata Contract As They sign A One-year Contract With Another Top CB To Replace Him

The Philadelphia Eagles extended starting left lineman Jordan Mailata and signed slot cornerback Avonte Maddox to a one-year contract on Thursday, continuing their hectic offseason.

Mailata and the Eagles reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension that will keep Mailata with the organization until the 2028 campaign.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the three-year contract is valued at $66 million, including a guaranteed $48 million. According to Schefter, there’s also a $20 million signing bonus included.

Mailata is the highest-paid tackle in the NFL, only surpassed by Trent Williams, Andrew Thomas, and Laremy Tunsil with an average salary of $22 million annually.

The Eagles selected Mailata, 27, in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. Prior to being selected by the Birds in the draft, he had played football. Prior to traveling abroad and joining the Eagles, Mailata played rugby in Australia. Using the International Player Pathway Program, he registered for the draft.

Maddox was cut by the Eagles in early March, but he was signed to a one-year contract on Thursday.

As Maddox approached the last year of a 2021 contract extension, the Eagles cut him. Before being cut, he had a $9.6 million salary cap hit for the 2024 campaign, according to Over The Cap.

Over the previous two seasons, Maddox has only appeared in 14 games for the Eagles and regular season.

For the Eagles in 2022 and 2023 combined, Maddox totaled 55 tackles, one interception, five pass deflections, and four forced fumbles.
