sad news: new york yankees coach threaten to fire gerrit cole due to a background argument…

The Yankees hired James Rowson as their hitting coach. He replaces Sean Casey, who was a midseason replacement to the Yankees’ staff.

Rowson was the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach in 2023 and was in a similar role with the Miami Marlins from 2022-22. He was also the Minnesota Twins’ hitting coach from 2017-19. Before he became an MLB coach he was the Yankees’ Minor League hitting coordinator for seven years, and among his pupils was Aaron Judge.

In a move that might make Soto more comfortable, the Yankees hired Pat Roessler as the assistant hitting coach. He was last with Washington from 2020-23 and helped tutor Soto for more than two seasons. He replaced Brad Wilkerson.

The rest of Boone’s staff from 2023 returns, including pitching coach Matt Blake, bullpen coach Mike Harkey, assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel, third base coach Luis Rojas, first base coach Travis Chapman, assistant hitting coach Casey Dykes and MLB field coordinator and director of catching Tanner Swanson.

All of the coaching moves were previously reported but not formally announced.

The biggest ‘name’ among the new coaches is Brad Ausmus, who is now the bench coach. He replaces Carlos Mendoza, who is now the manager of the New York Mets.

Ausmus played 17 years and has five years of experience as a manager, including leading the Detroit Tigers to 2014 AL Central title. He was Oakland’s bench coach in 2022.
