March 11: At noon ET, the NFL’s window for lawful tampering opens. Teams are permitted to start contract negotiations with players who are scheduled to become free agents at this time, according to the NFL’s official operations website.
NFL free agency officially starts on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET. Teams and players are free to sign new contracts; any contracts that expire after the 2023 season do so. This includes agreements made during the period of tampering being legally binding.
