Florida’s Daytonia Beach — On Friday, General Motors restated that it is “continuing to develop our car at pace” in collaboration with Michael Andretti for a Formula 1 entry. It also refuted F1’s claim that an Andretti Cadillac effort would not be competitive.

In order to enable Michael Andretti to run a wholly American team in the international motorsports series, General Motors teamed up with Andretti in early 2023 to request that F1 increase the current grid from 10 teams to 11. GM’s commitment at the time was limited to badge engines for Andretti.

GM then formally filed to become an official engine supplier in 2028, long after the Andretti proposal was granted by the FIA, the body that oversees Formula One. Among other reasons, F1 stated in rejecting Andretti’s bid last month that it did
