Deshea Townsend, who was fired by the Jaguars last month as their defensive pass-game coordinator, has another position lined up. The former NFL cornerback is joining the Lions in the same role, according to a tweet from Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. Townsend, who played for the Steelers for 12 years and won two Super Bowls, has been coaching since retiring in 2011. Townsend coached defensive backs for the Bears, Giants, Titans, and Cardinals before spending two years in Jacksonville. DBs coach Brian Duker was recently traded by the Lions to the Dolphins.
Mike Pettine will play a more defined role in Minnesota this season after serving as the senior defensive assistant for the Vikings for the previous two years. The former Browns head coach and seasoned defensive end will lead the Vikings’ outside linebackers in 2024, the team announced.
