GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: Longtime defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery decided to seek other possibilities, thus the Green Bay Packers will have at least one new position coach under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, according to The Athletic.

PackersNews.com reports that joining Jerod Mayo’s young staff with the New England Patriots is one of those options.

In fact, the piece claims that as Green Bay makes a defensive shift after three years under Joe Barry, all of his assistant coaches are free to consider their alternatives.

Among the assistant coaches for Green Bay, Montgomery had the longest tenure. Montgomery chose to join the Packers as an assistant defensive lineman under defensive coordinator Dom Capers shortly after being named co-defensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 2015.

Third-year player TJ Slaton, second-year player Devonte Wyatt, and newcomers Colby Wooden and Karl Brooks completed this year’s squad. There were times for that youthful group. Slaton was a formidable opponent to the run at times. The league’s most inconsistent interior rusher, Wyatt, could have had ten sacks if he hadn’t missed more tackles than any other defensive lineman.
