JUST NOW: Leeds United have just opened the door to complete £8.6m…

Despite having been named as an unused substitute against Birmingham City on Monday, Spence had just started to find his groove at Elland Road with five consecutive starts.

Leeds are still fairly well stocked at right-back in terms of players who can play there, but at the same time, there is no doubt their set of options now look a whole lot weaker.

Archie Gray has been first choice since October but is still primarily a central midfielder, while Jamie Shackleton has struggled with injuries. Luke Ayling is another, but is also out injured, has been linked with Middles brough and Farke does not seem too keen to play him.

With that in mind, it is paramount that Leeds do not leave themselves short this month and so it could now make sense if they firm up their initial reported interest in Osayi-Samuel.

Osayi-Samuel was more of a winger during his previous time in England but is now very much a right-back at Fenerbahce, starting regularly and performing well so far this season.

Loans were expected to make up the bulk of Leeds’ transfer strategy and they do now have three slots open after Spence’s exit, however, an £8.6 million deal may just be there for them
