Transfer target to visit Michigan football, plus more on Jim Harbaugh

Michigan football will host transfer portal target Upton Stout, plus what’s the holdup with Jim Harbaugh’s new contract?

For the second year in a row, Michigan football is expected to be busy in the transfer portal. The Wolverines have already made a few offers and one target is already expected to visit.

That’s former Western Kentucky defensive back Upton Stout. He’s a 5-foot-9 defensive back who seems like a replacement for Mike Sainristil in the slot.

Stout is going to visit Michigan football and USC according to a report from Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider.

Stout only played in seven games this season for Western Kentucky but was productive with 29 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and eight pass breakups. The defensive back also has two career defensive touchdowns.

Just from looking at the stats, you can see the ball skills. He would be a really solid addition and would help fill that Nickel role that’s been played by Mikey and Daxton Hill for the past three seasons.

Will Jim Harbaugh sign his contract offer?

It was reported on Thursday that Michigan football has extended a five-year, $55 million deal to Jim Harbaugh. However, we don’t know if Jim will sign it.

The language is supposed to include a guarantee that Harbaugh won’t pursue the NFL this offseason. However, there could be other things that are still being negotiated.

I’m sure both sides are trying to put in language to protect themselves in case the NCAA investigation finds anything worse or connects to Harbaugh in any way — although I don’t believe that it ever will.

I have a hard time seeing Jim leave under a cloud of suspicion. But this dance with the NCAA has to be getting old. I hope that Michigan can make him comfortable enough with the deal to sign it. I also hope that happens as soon as possible because, for recruiting, it’s needed.
