Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks Showing Interest in Top Free Agent Slugger

According to Ken Rosenthal of ‘The Athletic,’ the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks are expressing interest in free agent

Free agent outfielder Jorge Soler is generating interest from the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, according to ‘The Athletic.’

From an article written by Ken Rosenthal:

First off, Soler is someone that the Mariners desperately need. After letting Teoscar Hernandez and Eugenio Suarez go earlier in the offseason, Seattle is devoid of power in the middle of the order at this point. Signing Soler would give them the right-handed bat they need in their outfield and help in that department.

It might also quell the growing frustration amongst the fanbase – and players – about the direction of the organization.

As for the Diamondbacks, they also could use Soler. Coming off a season in which they went to the World Series, they are looking to strike. They already traded for Suarez and are looking to get more powerful across the board. Soler could pair with Corbin Carroll to make a dynamic outfield combination. The Snakes are also set to lose Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in free agency, so Soler could replace him.

Soler had a very productive year this year for Miami, who made the playoffs as a wild card team. They were swept in two games by the Philadelphia Phillies, who eventually made the National League Championship Series.

He hit 36 home runs for the Fish, serving as an anchor in the middle of their order. He also hit .250 and drove in 75. The 31-year-old had been due $9 million next season before opting out of his contract.

He’s a 10-year veteran who has played for the Cubs, Royals, Braves and Marlins. Soler won the World Series in 2015 with the Royals and the Braves in 2021. He made his first All-Star team this past season.
