Michigan Football Opponent Preview: Iowa Hawkeyes

Michigan will face Iowa on Saturday in the Big Ten Championship game and it will be a rematch of the 2021 B1G Championship. In 2021, the Wolverines dominated and won 42-3.

The Wolverines will enter the game as heavy favorites and many experts aren’t predicting Iowa to score many points — if any — on the Michigan defense. Iowa is 10-2, but it’s not because of its offense. The Hawkeyes have found success through special teams and defense.

Michigan will be the first top-50 offense Iowa has faced this season, other than Penn State. Iowa lost to the Nittany Lions, 31-0 this season.

The Hawkeyes will battle the Wolverines fairly shorthanded. Iowa has lost several key members from the team this season like former Michigan players Cade McNamara and Erik All. The Hawkeyes are also without their star defensive back and returner Cooper DeJean.

QB Deacon Hill: Hill, the former Wisconsin Badger, is the man under center for Iowa. Hill was forced into the starting role once Cade McNamara went down with a season-ending injury. It’s been a tough going for Hill and the Hawkeyes’ passing game. He is 12th in the conference completing 48.3% of his passes and Hill has thrown five touchdowns compared to six interceptions.
