BREAKING: Minnesota Vikings Drop Veteran QB As HC Decides

The Minnesota Vikings dropped one veteran quarterback on Tuesday as the team heads into their Bye Week with a quarterback controversy brewing ahead of their Week 14 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Joshua Dobbs performed solidly during his first three games with the Vikings after being traded by the Arizona Cardinals. However, Dobbs’ four interceptions against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football were a major factor in the Vikings’ loss that dropped the team to a 6-6 record.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said Tuesday the Vikings weren’t committed to Dobbs being the starter against the Raiders. O’Connell plans to play the quarterback who best pairs with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who will make his return against the Raiders.

The Vikings will have quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall back from injuries in Week 14. With both players available and Dobbs on the 53-man roster, the Vikings cut another veteran quarterback. According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Vikings released Sean Mannion from the practice squad.

The Vikings signed Mannion in October. Mannion had been signed by the Vikings in two previous stints before this season.

The Vikings will do their best to find the right backup for Kirk Cousins, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury last month. But the Vikings’ two-loss streak heading into their Bye Week has cut down their margin for error at the position for the rest of the season.
