Vikings at Broncos second quarter recap
On the very first play of the second quarter, Josh Dobbs would roll out and shake off an attempted tackle by Jonathan Cooper and fire in a touchdown pass to put the Minnesota Vikings up over the Denver Broncos.
Needing a drive, the Broncos promptly went three and out and had to punt it back to the Vikings. The defense continued to falter giving up yards and allowing the Vikings to march right down the field with easy.
On a third and goal from the five, they finally woke up with Jonathan Cooper wrapping Josh Dobbs up for the sack to keep the damage to three points.
Denver needed to get things going and they did to start their next drive. Russell Wilson was hit has he threw but got the pass off for a 19-yard gain to Jerry Jeudy on their first play. Two plays later, Wilson went big time to Courtland Sutton deep down the sideline for a huge catch to the Vikings 21-yard line for a 33-yard gain.
Two plays later on third and seven, Wilson found Jerry Jeudy short of the sticks and was tackled just shy of a first down to bring out the field goal unit. Wil Lutz would boot it through to make it a 10-6 game.
The Broncos would stop the Vikings at midfield to get the offense the ball back with just over a minute to play in the half. Wilson immediately went to Marvin Mims Jr. who was able to gain about eight yards on first down. He then found Adam Trautman for a first down out to the Broncos 47-yard line with 47 seconds left.
After a short timeout, Wilson went to Trautman again into Vikings territory to the 39-yard line. A short pass to Samaje Perine, Wilson was pressured and threw it away to bring up a third and five with 11 seconds left in the half from the Vikings 34-yard line. Wilson chucked a yolo ball into the end zone and was lucky it wasn’t intercepted to bring out the field goal unit.
Wil Lutz would bang it through from 52-yards out to make it a one point game at halftime…
