Packers RB Aaron Jones will have an MRI on Monday

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones left the field in visible pain on Sunday, as he was injured during the Packers’ 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The immediate concern, according to both Jones and head coach Matt LaFleur, was that his injury could be one that could have ended his 2023 campaign.

After the game, Jones claimed that he will have an MRI on Monday, which will be able to help the team identify what the back’s injury is. Per Jones, though, we can rule out an ACL tear.

LaFleur, in his post-game press conference, also stated that he doesn’t believe this injury will be a long-term issue for Jones, which is a relief. With that being said, the Packers have to play a game on Thursday this week, which means that it’s unlikely that Jones will be able to suit up against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

Along with Jones, fellow running back Emanuel Wilson also left the game with an injury. According to Wilson, the back dislocated his shoulder on a hit up the sideline against the Chargers. In his words, “I know physically I’m going to be alright.”

The Packers will need to get their running back room in order and quickly, with such a fast turnaround for their road game against Detroit. At the moment, the only healthy running back on their 53-man roster is AJ Dillon, though, receiver Jayden Reed played a few plays in the backfield in two-back “Pony” sets against the Chargers following the injuries at the position. The team’s practice squad running back is Ellis Merriweather, who was picked up in Week 8. Don’t be surprised if Merriweather is a gameday call-up for Green Bay versus the Lions.
