Breaking: Vikings Running Back Cam Akers To Miss Rest Of The Season Following Confirmed Achilles Tea

In an unfortunate Update for the Minnesota Vikings, an MRI has confirmed that RB Cam Akers has tore his left achilles, and will be out for the remainder of the season.

The news was announced by HC Kevin O’Connell on Monday. Akers sustained the injury on Sunday in the game against the Falcons.

Well, this injury marks the second time Akers has torn his achilles in his four-year career.

He had injured his right ankle after he tore his right Achilles tendon in the first week of the 2021 season while playing for the Rams, which eventually forced him to miss the rest of the regular season.

“Cam is pretty bummed out,” O’Connell stated.

In six appearances for the Vikings this season, Akers has put-up a great performance with running the ball 38 times for 138 yards and a touchdown and catching 11 out of 12 targets for 70 yards.

The Vikings acquired Akers from the Rams in Week 3 to serve as a backup for, and eventually share backfield duties with, starter Alexander Mattison.

Meanwhile, with Akers is set to become a free-agent during the off-season, and although he has received praise from HC O’Connell during his short stint with the Vikings, he is still unlikely to be a high-priority signing for the Vikings or any other team in the league.

Now, with Akers out for the season, the Vikings will now turn back to to Ty Chandler as Mattison’s backup.
