Lions Pro Bowl center added to practice report with calf injury

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16) yells instructions to his team as Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow (77) points to Detroit Lions guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai (72) during the first half of an NFL football game against Kansas City. Chiefs, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Kansas City, Mo.

ALLEN PARK – The Detroit Lions’ injuries on the offensive line have gotten worse, with center Frank Ragnow and right guard Halapoulivaati Vaitai now joining Jonah Jackson on the sidelines.

Jackson missed the last two games with an ankle injury and another Thursday practice. Ragnow also missed practice with shin and toe injuries. The former All-Pro center has had regular days off this season to deal with a disabling toe injury, but the shin injury is new and a must-watch for Monday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Vaitai, meanwhile, was a limited training participant due to a back injury. The towering guard dealt with back injuries in Detroit and was out for most of last season after surgery. He missed four more games this season with a knee injury and just returned on Sunday. Now he’s blown out again, leaving Graham Glasgow as the only healthy inside hitter at the moment.

Defensive end Benito Jones (ankle), running back David Montgomery (ribs) and Malcolm Rodriguez (ankle) were also out, while cornerback Jerry Jacobs (knee) was cleared. He is expected to play Monday night after sitting out the Ravens game.
