Kyler Murray injury update: Cardinals QB returns after layoff from IR

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is back in practice after suffering an ACL injury. He made a two-word announcement on social media about his return: “We are working today.”

Following Murray’s announcement, the team revealed that he had been ordered to return from the physically unable to perform list, beginning his 21-day potential activation period on the 53-man roster.

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed that Murray informed him of his return to practice, to which Gannon replied, “Good, see you later.”

Gannon emphasized Murray’s importance to the franchise, saying, “Obviously he’s our franchise quarterback, so I was happy about that.” As for when Murray will play, that is an “organizational decision” and he will play a “big role” in those discussions. The immediate plan is to take Murray’s return “day by day.”

Speaking recently on Arizona Sports 98.7-FM, Gannon emphasized that Murray must meet certain criteria to ensure he is in good physical shape before returning to action.

“Just to make sure before the mental mind makes him play football, to make sure the physical is right,” Gannon explained. “Just all the different things that he does as a player, that he wants to be able to play the position, so we can simulate that as much as we can without actually playing football there, but that he feels comfortable with everything that he has. to be able to do.”

The current quarterback for the Cardinals is Joshua Dobbs, and Gannon emphasized the need for Dobbs to be ready to play. Regardless, they’re making sure Murray gets both physical and mental reps.

“The guy making the play has to go get ready,” Petzing said. “That’s the No. 1 priority. But there’s extra time in the day, there’s downtime during practice, there’s extra options in the rules to make sure he gets his reps physically and mentally. A lot of that is being done now with the backup (Clayton). ).Tune).

While it seems unlikely that Murray will return to the field for this Sunday’s game in Seattle, the Cardinals are expected to be patient with their star quarterback. If Murray can prove his health and fitness in practice over the coming weeks, he should return to the center of the team for the foreseeable future.
