Panthers predicted to land Jerry Jeudy ahead of Oct. 31 trade deadline

However, some still believe the 0-6 team will give up capital to add a wide receiver who was the best middle linebacker during his time in Denver – Jerry Jeudy.

According to CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin, the Panthers will send a 2024 third-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick to acquire Jeudy, who has yet to complete a 1,000-yard season. It’s a head-scratching move. Adam Thielen played well. At 0-6, the Panthers are not aiming for the playoffs. And the team has already given up draft capital to acquire its new quarterback, Bryce Young, in the 2023 NFL Draft. Why would it give up more picks for a player who is struggling to advance at the NFL level? Here is Benjamin’s explanation.

“A year after going three and six to Kadarius Toney, Jeudy could be the next Mercury to make that move. While he represents Denver’s only legitimate long-term WR prospect at 24, he hasn’t been able to hit three in a season. Panthers desperately need younger help around QB Bryce Young. Imagine the irony of Jeudy joining Steve Smith’s old team.”

Jeudy would be a nice player. But it depends on the price. The Panthers are building, whether Frank Reich and his coaching staff want to admit it or not, and losing future draft capital to a wide receiver who hasn’t necessarily impressed is a move that makes no sense.

In the NFL, teams tend to fall in love with potential. Jeudy has always been a player who looked better on paper than on the field. Sacrificing the Panthers’ draft capital to acquire him would not improve the team in the short or long term. This article first appeared on A-Z Sports and has been syndicated with permission.
