Another Carolina Panthers defensive player will miss significant time with an injury

Another Carolina Panthers defensive player will miss a lot due to injury. ALEX ZIETLOW UPDATED 10/3/2013. After blowing a 14-0 lead, the Panthers lost to the Miami Dolphins 42-21 on Sunday:

Scott FOWLER The Carolina Panthers secondary took another hit. Jeremy Chinn, the team’s second-round pick in the 2020 draft who blitzed his brief run in Carolina, is dealing with a significant quad injury, a league source confirmed to The Charlotte Observer on Tuesday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news. The injury does not require surgery, but according to ESPN, he will be sidelined for six weeks. It’s just the latest in a string of injuries for the Panthers defense: Safety Xavier Woods (hamstring) hasn’t played in recent weeks.

Starting defensive end Vonn Bell (quad) also missed the game against Miami — and that’s because of a lingering injury to cornerback Jaycee Horn, who was hurt in Week 1. Playing for the 25-year-old safety — who is technically a defensive back but is proven player closer to the line of scrimmage he plays — wasn’t as high in the fourth year as one might have expected at the start.of 2023. He completed 26 passes defensed (39%) and seven on special teams.

The Panthers last lost to Miami last weekend, 0-6. That was a slight increase from last week in Detroit, when he had 18 passes defensed (30%) and 11 snaps on special teams.

He has 23 tackles, one sack and one sack in six games this year. He was hurt last Sunday against the Dolphins. Chinn’s most productive season to date was his rookie year, when he had 117 tackles, forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had an interception, enough to make him a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

Similar numbers followed in 2021. Since then, however, the 6-foot-1, 220-pound point guard’s production and playing time have declined. Chinn is in his fourth season, which means he is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent after this season. The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 31 at 4 p.m.

The Panthers signed safety Alex Cook to the New York Giants practice squad on Tuesday to help their safety depth problem. Mike Kaye contributed to this report.
