Steve Cooper must start £8m-rated 29-year-old after the international break – Opinion

With Nottingham Forest making another 13 new signings this summer, Steve Cooper is set to develop his best starting position.

However, there is one player who deserves a chance to showcase his talents after joining the club.

Goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos joined the club on deadline day from Portuguese champions Benfica for a fee of around £8m but is yet to play for the Reds.

New signing Matt Turner has started every game in the league and cup since his arrival, but Cooper should give 29-year-old Vlachodimos a game to claim the top spot.

The Greece international goalkeeper has an excellent pedigree, having played over 150 times for Benfica, with several players reaching the Champions League.

Debut against Luton? After another strong international performance last night, Vlachodimos is sure to give Forest boss Cooper a headache regarding his selection for next Saturday’s clash at Luton. Given his experience and pedigree, he doesn’t want to join the Reds just to sit on the bench – his performance last night confirms the fact that he is too good to be a bench warmer.

Hopefully, Cooper will give Vlachodimos the start he deserves after the international break.
