Fantasy ballers: Three WRs who will exceed their Week 6 projections

Two veteran wide receivers and a promising rookie are on pace to surpass their Week 6 projections in fantasy football.

Adam Thielen (WR) Carolina Panthers

After starting 2023 with two 12-yard touchdown catches against the Atlanta Falcons, Thielen was on a tear. He has scored three times, averaging 95.5 yards and 23.7 fantasy points per game in the last four contests.

His 27.7 fantasy points in Week 5 were fourth among wide receivers in Yahoo leagues, but he is projected for 25th in Week 6 with just 13.03 fantasy points. That’s a low number for Carolina’s top receiver, especially against a Miami Dolphins team that will likely put up big numbers against the Panthers. DeVonta Smith (WR) Philadelphia Eagles

Want to know who has a big game for the Eagles each week? Just look for a player who had a bad game last week.

Against Washington in Week 4, tight end Dallas Goedert had just two catches for 25 yards. In Week 5, Goedert had eight catches for 117 yards and one touchdown. A.J. Brown went for more than 100 yards for the third straight weekend against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, but only after a quiet four-catch, 29-yard performance against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. Smith had one catch for five yards in the team’s win against the Rams, his worst performance since last year’s season opener. A week later, he led the team with seven goals.

With New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner expected to cover Brown this week, you can count on Hurts to get Smith the ball and exceed his projected 14.7 fantasy points.

According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Addison limited Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury. Assuming he can play on Sunday, the rookie has a chance to make some noise against the Chicago Bears and top his 13.4 points. Now that All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson is on the infrared with a hamstring injury, Addison and fellow receiver K.J. Osborn must become the NFL’s third leading receiver. Osborn has 1,471 yards and 14 touchdowns in three years with the team, but Minnesota knows what they have with the former fifth-round pick.

In five games behind Jefferson and Osborn this year, Addison has 19 catches for 249 yards and three scores. With just one win after a month of overtime and Jefferson out for a month, Minnesota has reason to pass the ball on their first-round draft pick.
