Dolphins head coach discuss Bryce Young ahead of Panthers game
Alabama head coach Nick Saban has four starters in the National Football League. They square off on Sunday when the Carolina Panthers take on the Miami Dolphins.
Bryce Young and Tua Tagovailoa were top five picks in the NFL draft. Young became the first Saban-era Crimson Tide signal caller to be drafted No. 1 overall in that era. Both quarterbacks were Heisman finalists in college, while Young gave the program its fourth Heisman Trophy. Tagovailoa is coming off an MVP-caliber season in his fourth year in the NFL. Young is looking for his first win as a pro.
He has 750 passing yards and five touchdowns to four interceptions. Panthers head coach Frank Reich believes in Young, but he knows Carolina needs more playmakers around him. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has made Tagovailoa the star of the league, but he also sees potential in Young. On Wednesday, he told the media how Young impressed him. Mike McDaniel on Bryce Young’s chances:
“He’s a ballplayer with a bright future,” McDaniel said. “He’s one of the few young quarterbacks who can see quarterbacks. His vision is incredible and you can see his timing and pace. I think he’s going to be a very good player in this league. There’s nothing harder than being a rookie quarterback . In this process, you will learn real time speed. I see a guy that’s showing his ability with the rhythm of the play and learning certain things about how weird he is in the pocket and how he moves, and he continues to extend plays.”
“You can tell the guys he played with in college respect him, there’s a reason,” McDaniel said. “If you don’t believe me, just ask any Alabama player. You’ll see how he earned the respect of not only the rookies, but also the veterans of the team.
Young earned the respect of the Panthers during the offseason for his work ethic. He worked as a starter during organized team activities (OTAs) and camps. Young’s art as a passer helped Jameson Williams and John Metchie become 1,000-yard wide receivers at Alabama in 2021. He suffered a shoulder injury in 2022, but Young had 3,328 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. Tide fans will be excited to see what he does against Miami.
