SAD NEWS:Panthers key man travels home with team after going to hospital with neck injury

Carolina Panthers guard Chandler Zavala has been released from the hospital and traveled home with the team after being carried off the field late in the first quarter against the Detroit Lions on Sunday with a neck injury.

The freshman was injured on a run play and it took time for medical staff to stabilize his neck. They put him on the back board and behind the carriage. Zavala was taken to the hospital, where he was awake and able to move all his limbs.

“We think it was a bad hit, but our medical staff always takes every precaution to protect our players,” Panthers coach Frank Reich said after Detroit’s 42-24 win. Carolina players left the sideline to be near their injured teammate and surrounded the cart before Zavala was carried off the field.
