Phil Hay issues £1.5m Middlesbrough update on Leeds United goal machine

Phil Hay has released Middlesbrough’s £1.5m update on Leeds United midfielder Sam Greenwood

Phil Hay has revealed Middlesbrough’s bid for Leeds United midfielder Sam Greenwood, who joined them on loan this season.

A sports reporter wrote on Monday (October 9) that Boro could exercise an option to buy the 21-year-old for just £1.5m.

That is the exact amount the Whites paid to secure his services from Arsenal in 2020.

Despite being only 21, Greenwood has already made 25 Premier League appearances and played longer in the first team last season.

Selling him for just over a million isn’t exactly good business, and perhaps Leeds accepted that because Daniel Farke didn’t criticize him.

Jesse Marsch may have been a bigger fan of the player and it’s safe to say Marcelo Bielsa was too, but Boro have a good chance to exercise the option to buy.

They have one full season to see how the Championship goes before spending money on Greenwood.

Right now they’re sort of in a relegation battle and they’re focusing on that more than anything else.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims Europe’s biggest clubs have been monitoring the Whites player for some time and are still open to signing him.
