Here he showed how important he can be on the other side of the pitch. Farke had to figure out how to make the most of the opportunities in defence, with Jamie Shackleton joining Junior Firpo on the flank and Leo Hjelde looking a bit deeper, picking Gray at right back where he played. And Gray produced an excellent performance at Leeds, finishing the match with eight tackles, winning 12 of 15 duels and finishing with 81% pass accuracy (SofaScore statistics). This versatility could be very useful for Farke going forward.

Farke flashed quite briefly when asked again why Joel Piroe played in Georginio Rutter’s position as Leeds’ deeper 10 rather than a central nine.
